Summary Biography
Stéphan Barron is a French contemporary artist born on February 23, 1961, in Caen.
Since 1984, he has created works theorized under the terms and concepts of “planetary art” and “technoromanticism.” He is one of the pioneers of digital art and ecological art. According to Pierre Restany, he “occupies a prominent place in Europe in the spatio-temporal definition of the video image.”
Technoromanticism theorizes the links between art and new technologies, in the context of the threats posed by technoscience and economic development to nature and the global environment.
Planetary Art is an art form that takes the Earth in its planetary dimension as a medium for artistic creation.
Villa Medici Hors-les-murs scholarship recipient at the Adelaide Biennale for the work Ozone.
