Mur / Wall – Video Art – Installation – Stéphan BARRON – 1987 (Extract) from Stephan BARRON on Vimeo.
The “user” of this installation walks around within the four walls. The installation must be arranged with the idea of confinement relative to the walls and therefore with walls that are sufficiently high and wide (2.20 m by 4 m).
The number of televisions used in this installation is therefore a maximum of 120 (walls measuring 5 by 6, or 30 televisions) and a minimum of 64 (walls measuring 4 by 4, or 16 televisions). In this case, the spaces in between are filled with painted wood (matte black).
The ideas of concentration and meditation (facing the wall!) are not excluded from this installation. Industrial/noise music will also be played during the installation to accentuate the aspects of compression/concentration and expansion/liberation associated with this environment.
The video tapes last ten minutes and consist of shots of the walls. The focus is on the plastic/abstract aspect of the walls: texture, color… and on the camera movements: moving shots, tracking shots, half-turns, front/back. The coordination of the four videos will be studied precisely by the transition of shots from one wall to another or by simultaneous changes of shot.
